First separate edition of the Asinus Aureus, and the first published version with Philip Beroaldus's (1453-1505) commentary, folio, text in roman letter throughout, with original text in a larger font in the center of the pages with commentary surrounding in a smaller typeface; large woodcut printer's mark on final leaf; bound in 19th century crushed dark green morocco, all edges gilt; spine sunned, corners bumped, joints dry and flaking; inner morocco joints, peach-colored watered silk pastedowns and flyleaves; title trimmed to include only the text [2 x 5 in.] and mounted; leaf D6 mounted on both sides in a somewhat translucent sheet to support structural damage, still legible through the sheet; housed in custom chemise and slipcase; this copy without the table printed later and added to some copies; 11 1/4 x 8 in.
